The Five Animals

We as martial artists all have an animal as a personality. Some of us have more than one. Development of these personalities lies within each of us according to our individual gifts.

The Tiger: From the tiger we learn strength and tenacity. The Chinese believe that the tiger has the strongest bones of any animal. With its powerful upper body movements, the tiger can overwhelm its opponents with ease.

The Leopard: Leopard style techniques develop speed, timing, coordination and overall muscle tone and strength.

The Crane: The Crane teaches balance and coordination of the entire body. Balance is everything.

The Snake: The Snake teaches rhythmic endurance, focus and penetrating internal power. The Snake provides the most instruction in the development of internal power or Chi.

The Dragon: The Dragon combines all of the other animals and adds to them the quality of intention and fighting spirit. The dragon floats and rides the wind.
